legend picks

The Horror Channel may have had a rebrand to Legend, but there’s still plenty to look forward to. We’ve picked five things you shouldn’t miss…

Tuesday July 5th, 10.55pm – Torture Garden (1967)

Fabulous Amicus anthology centred on stories written by Robert Bloch, best known for penning Psycho. The usual starry cast is present, including Burgess Meredith and Jack Palance alongside genre regulars Peter Cushing and Michael Ripper.

Wednesday July 6th, 4pm – Orca, the Killer Whale (1977)

Riding the wave of the success of Jaws, this nautical adventure sees Richard Harris kill a pregnant killer whale only for the male counterpart to come looking for revenge. (Also screening on Thursday at 11am.)

Thursday July 7th, 9pm – The Titan (2018)

Sci-fi thriller starring Sam Worthington based on Frederick Pohl’s 1976 novel Man Plus. Titan, Saturn’s moon, is earmarked as a safe haven for humankind following endless conflicts and an overcrowded planet.

Saturday July 9th, 9pm – Extreme Prejudice (1987)

Legendary director Walter Hill’s neo-western stars Nick Nolte and has a solid cast list including Michael Ironside, Rip Torn, and Clancy Brown). Gunfights ahoy!

Sunday July 10th, 9pm – 12.40am The Vintage Vault

Legend continues to celebrate the Golden Age of genre cinema with a season of double bills. We have some sixties chills this week with Island of Terror (1966), in which Peter Cushing helps an island’s problem with a creature that leaves its victims with no bones. The Professor is back in Quatermass and the Pit (1967), Hammer’s remake of the BBC serial in which Andrew Keir investigates the discovery of an alien craft during the excavation of a new tunnel on the London Underground.
