With Robbie Amell’s Ronnie Raymond already confirmed to be returning to The Flash later this season, now comes word that Rick Cosnett’s Eddie Thawne will be back in some form as Season 3 progresses.

The actor himself revealed the news, taking to his Twitter page to say, “Ok, hate to tease you but now I can say it: I’m coming back on #TheFlash”

For longtime fans of The CW’s Scarlet Speedster-centric show, you’ll remember that Eddie died in the final episode of the series’ debut season. Sacrificing himself to stop his future descendant, Eobard Thawne, aka Reverse-Flash, from even existing, poor Eddie went out as a hero, fatally shooting himself in the chest for the greater good. Cosnett would actually return for an episode of the show’s second season, but that was merely because Barry had travelled back to a time when he was still alive.

At this stage, there’s no details on when or how Eddie will turn up in Central City once more. Given the recent problems Barry has caused due to his time-travelling shenanigans, it could be that his meddling will play a part in Eddie’s return somehow. Either that, or we could see an alternative world’s Eddie Thawne or possibly even another trip to the past. When it comes to the Grant Gustin-starring show, it really is a case of all bets are off.

The Flash returns for its mid-season premiere on January 24th in the US, with the show back on UK screens as of January 31st.
