The X-Files is set to return next year for a six-episode mini-series, but it appears that there could very well be more to come from the fan favourite show.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, star David Duchovny teased, “I would be open to doing another cycle. I don’t know that I could do a twenty-episode version of this show at this point in my life, and I don’t know that Gillian could. But I think everybody is open ended on what happens after this. Certainly, we didn’t bring it back with the idea of ending it.”

In the same interview, Duchovny also revealed how he was brought to tears when the first script for the new series was given to him and also alluded to the new series having an overreaching arc as well as standalone, episode-centric mysteries.

With David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson and Mitch Pileggi confirmed to return, along with creator Chris Carter, The X-Files will be returning next year.
