With Devon Aoki recently cast as Tatsu Yamashiro, aka Katana, in The CW’s ARROW, now comes word of two further additions.

First up, TVLine brings words that RED STEEL’s Karl Yune has been cast as Tatsu’s husband, Maseo Yamashiro. The character will act as a handler of sorts for Oliver Queen during his time in Hong Kong; scenes that will be used as flashbacks in the upcoming Season 3 of the show. The report goes on to say, “Over time, he will also evolve into a teacher and a friend who helps Oliver step ever closer to becoming the superhero he is today.” It’s also interesting to know that Maseo ends up dying thanks to the blade of his wife in the comics. Of course, in the comics, her blade stores the soul of all whose life it takes. Whether that mystical element will make its way into ARROW is unknown.

Secondly, Count Vertigo is to return… kind of. Seth Gabel’s brilliantly over-the-top Count, who unleashed the Vertigo drug into the streets of Starling City, ended up biting the bullet during Season 2 of the show. Now whilst he won’t be returning from beyond the grave, the prolific and often brilliant Peter Stormare will be playing a new version of Count Vertigo. Stormare has been cast as Werner Zytle, Vertigo’s comic book alias, and will similarly be a dealer of the Vertigo drug. Stormare is most fondly known for his supporting turns in the likes of THE BIG LEBOWSKI and FARGO.

Season 3 of ARROW will premiere in the US on 8th October, with the show’s UK return expected to follow shortly after.
