Following on from last Friday’s surprising news that an INDEPENDENCE DAY sequel is finally set to go into production for a July 3rd 2015 release, comes the first casting confirmations. Director Roland Emmerich, speaking with movies.com to promote his new flick WHITE HOUSE DOWN, revealed that Bill Pullman and Jeff Goldblum are both set to reprise their roles as (ex) President Thomas J. Whitmore and scientist David Levinson respectively. It was previously reported that Emmerich has already nixed Will Smith’s return due to the mega star’s prohibitive fee; but after the disastrous box office of AFTER EARTH, one wonders whether Smith will be willing to lower his price to at least make an appearance. Since the first film went a long way to cement his status in Hollywood, it’d be kinda dickish of him to refuse, surely.

We’ll have more on the sequel (‘sequels’ if they stick with Emmerich’s original vision) as it develops…
