A month or so ago, Ben Affleck shocked us all by revealing a video of the villainous Deathstroke on the set of something, somewhere. Since then, it’s been confirmed that Joe Manganiello will be playing the master assassin, with him being the ‘big bad’ of the Batman solo movie that Affleck is co-writing with DC’s Geoff Johns – a film that the latest incarnation of the Caped Crusader will also direct, too. But will we be seeing Deathstroke, aka Slade Wilson, before then? Maybe…
Given how Zack Snyder’s Justice League has been shooting all summer, it was logical to think that the footage of Deathstroke was something taken from Snyder’s Batman v Superman follow-up. And now the director himself has teased that Slade will be appearing in Justice League in some form.
Taking to his Twitter account, Snyder has posted a look at him working on some storyboards from the film. And yes, said storyboards indeed feature Slade Wilson. What’s also worth noting is just who Slade is talking to in these pics. It’s not a given, but the bald head on show suggests that Wilson could well be talking to Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor, last seen being locked up at the end of Batman v Superman. Take a look for yourself:
The current word on Justice League reads:
Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes – Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash – it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.
As for the character of Slade Joseph Wilson himself, he was created by Marv Wolfman and George Perez and debuted in 1980’s New Teen Titans #2. Slade, aka Deathstroke, made an instant impact as a master assassin and mercenary, and it wouldn’t take long before he’d become famous for battling the likes of Nightwing, Batman, and Green Arrow. In later years, Deathstroke would even be turned in to more of an antihero at times. And just to give you an idea of just how badass he is, Slade Wilson is one of the few people to have defeated Batman in hand-to-hand combat. Multiple times, too! In fact, it’s even taken the combined might of the Justice League to defeat Deathstroke on certain occasions.
And in case you missed it, here’s the Deathstroke footage that Affleck put out last month:
Justice League is currently set for a November 10th, 2017 release, with the Ben Affleck-helmed untitled Batman movie – rumoured to be titled simply The Batman – still without an official release date, although it’s expected to start production in about 18 months’ time.SHARE YOUR COMMENTS BELOW OR ON TWITTER @STARBURST_MAG
