At the turn of the year, we brought news that Kim Jee-woon’s brilliant I SAW THE DEVIL was being remade for an English-language audience (y’know, because horror fans clearly haven’t got the attention span for a movie in a foreign language…). Whilst this was a redo that we weren’t necessarily sold on, this morning, courtesy of The Wrap, brings some positive news as Simon Barrett and Adam Wingard will be handling writing and directing duties, respectively. The duo are best known for YOU’RE NEXT and the upcoming THE GUEST.

No further news is known on this project at this time, although it’s said that Wingard is ready to meet with potential cast members imminently. Whether the film is a straight-up remake of the 2010 movie has yet to be confirmed, although clearly the basic narrative will be mimicked.

To give you an idea of what to expect, the synopsis for Kim Jee-won’s film reads, “The embodiment of pure evil, Kung-chul is a dangerous psychopath who kills for pleasure. On a freezing, snowy night, his latest victim is the beautiful Juyeon, daughter of a retired police chief and pregnant fiancée of elite special agent Soo-hyun. Obsessed with revenge, Soo-hyun is determined to track down the murderer, even if doing so means becoming a monster himself. And when he finds Kyung-chul, turning him in to the authorities is the last thing on his mind, as the lines between good and evil fall away in this diabolically twisted game of cat and mouse.”

Basically, it’s a fantastic, frantic, unsettling good ol’ revenge thriller.
