After much speculation, we’ve known now for a few months that a Xena redo was on the way. Well the new take on an old favourite has this week brought in a writer.

Variety reports that Javier Grillo-Marxuach has been hired to write NBC’s new take on Xena: Warrior Princess. The Emmy-winning writer, best known for his work on Lost, will also serve as an executive producer on the series.

Original series creators Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert are already confirmed to be overseeing this relaunch, which is currently on the lookout for “a sophisticated and smart superhero for a new generation” as it searches for its lead.
