With two X-Men-based TV series in development, FX’s Legion has brought in three new cast members.

Until now, the only confirmed cast member was Rachel Keller, playing Syd, a mutant whose powers centre on physical touch. Well FX has dropped the news that The Guest’s Dan Stevens, Parks and Recreations’ Aubrey Plaza, and Fargo’s Jean Smart have been added to the pilot for this new X-series.

Stevens will be playing the lead role of David Haller, a man diagnosed as schizophrenic but who comes to realise that the voices in his head are maybe a lot more real than he’s been led to believe. To comic book fans, they’ll recognise David as the son of one Charles Xavier.

As for Aubrey Plaza, she’s landed the role of Lenny, a friend of David’s whose lived through a life of drink and drugs. Despite this, she’s the eternal optimist in a world that’s not all that optimistic. And then there’s Jean Smart’s character of Melanie, a nurturing-yet-demanding therapist who likes to consider unconventional methods when it comes to her work.

The pilot for Legion has been written by Fargo’s Noah Hawley, who will also serve as the executive producer alongside Lauren Shuler Donner, Bryan Singer, Simon Kinberg, Jeph Loeb, Jim Chory, and John Cameron.
