With Hannibal’s Bryan Fuller now on board to oversee a new Star Trek show, the series has brought in Nicholas Meyer.

Meyer is a name that will instantly strike some recognition amongst long-time Trek fans, for he directed Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan and Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. He’ll be acting as a writer and consulting producer on CBS’ new Star Trek series.

On this addition, Fuller said, “Nicholas Meyer chased Kirk and Khan ‘round the Mutara Nebula and ‘round Genesis’ flames. He saved the whales with the Enterprise and its crew, and waged war and peace between Klingons and the Federation. We are thrilled to announce that one of Star Trek’s greatest storytellers will be boldly returning as Nicholas Meyer beams aboard the new Trek writing staff.”

This new Star Trek series will launch with a special preview on CBS early next year. Following that, the premiere and all first-run episodes will initially be exclusive to the on-demand CBS All Access in the US. No details are known at this early stage as to where the series will find a home in the UK.
