Today brings word that the planned World War Z sequel is now on the hunt for a new director.

Juan Antonio Bayona has had to depart the project, with it seemingly a case of conflicting schedules getting in the way for the Impossible and The Orphanage director. Paramount Pictures have confirmed the news, stating, “Bayona is no longer able to make World War Z 2 this year, and it is our ambition to do so. He is a wonderful director and we hope to work with him soon.”

The latest on the sequel is that Paramount have plans to start shooting the film this summer, with Brad Pitt signed on to return from a script by Steven Knight and Dennis Kelly. At present, World War Z 2 is penciled in for a June 9t, 2017 release, but it appears that the biggest problem here was that Bayona needed more time to work on his next film, A Monster Calls.

Interestingly, the follow up to Jurassic World had been offered to Bayona previously but he had to turn the gig down due to his commitments to World War Z 2. Could this now free the director up to helm the next Jurassic Park/World entry? We’ll have to wait and see.
