A sequel to 2013’s World War Z has been discussed and planned ever since the original film was still in cinemas. Now comes some more concrete details on the follow-up.

As well as Brad Pitt confirmed to return as Gerry Lane, the film has now been given a release date. Paramount Pictures has confirmed that the sequel will hit screens on June 9th, 2017, which is the same date that 20th Century Fox’s Fantastic Four 2 is currently pencilled in for.

Steven Knight is to pen the screenplay for World War Z, and The Impossible’s Juan Antonio Bayona will be directing. As well as starring in the follow-up, Pitt will also be serving as a producer on the film.

Expect to be hearing more on this sequel as and when it develops.
