WORLD OF WARCRACT may never have topped its peak subscription number of 12 million back in 2010, but in the build up to the MMO’s latest expansion, WARLORDS OF DRAENOR, the base number was on the increase.

Blizzard have announced that, within 24 hours of the expansions release, over 3.3 million copies were shifted, bringing up the global subscriber base to an impressive 10 million. Next time someone tries to convince you WoW is dead, that’s a handy statistic to fire back at them.

Far from the expected death rattle 10 years after its release, WoW is proving to be more important than it has done for years. The expansion was released in South Korea, mainland China, Taiwan, and Macau on the 19th of this month, which is likely to further increase the numbers.

Despite the expansions’ initial server difficulties, WoW is enjoying a success it hasn’t seen the likes of for years. While it’s hard to imagine it topping its 12 million mark, stranger things have happened. Here’s to another 10 years.
