Earlier this year, it was seemingly a done deal that Gal Gadot was to play the female lead in Timur Bekmambetov’s remake of BEN-HUR. Now comes word, via The Hollywood Reporter, that Gadot is out of the frame for the redo due to her commitments as Wonder Woman in the DC Cinematic Universe.

It was already known that Gadot will debut as Wonder Woman in Zack Snyder’s BATMAN V SUPERMAN, with it also recently revealed that the character will get a solo outing in 2017’s WONDER WOMAN. Additionally, Snyder’s JUSTICE LEAGUE is now a two-part movie. As well as these movies, Bleeding Cool is reporting that Warners actually have a WONDER WOMAN trilogy lined up, with the first film taking place in the 1920s and featuring Themyscira’s first experience of the outside world, the second film taking place in the 1940s with World War II in the background, then the third film set in a more modern-day environment. Treat this trilogy talk as purely rumour for now, although it certainly appears that Gadot is indeed out of BEN-HUR.

Starring Jack Huston, BEN-HUR is currently set for a February 26th, 2016 release, whilst BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE will hit screens on March 25th, 2016.
