Now that Deadpool is proving that superhero movies can be R-rated and be a massive success, it looks as if one of the Merc with a Mouth’s biggest on/off pals is going to be following suit. Yes, it appears that we may finally be getting an R-rated Wolverine movie.

For years, fans have wanted to see Logan’s big screen outings amp it up on the bad language and bloodshed, and now they may be getting their wish. Of course, 20th Century Fox’s Deadpool is crammed full of expletives, nudity, and plenty of spilt blood. With Wolverine 3 set to start production over the next few months, it seems that the call could finally be made to give Wolvie an R-rated send-off for what will be Hugh Jackman’s last time out as the character.

A Reddit user by the name of RayChaos managed to snap the below picture from this week’s Toy Fair presentation, which suggests that, for now at least, the final Wolverine movie will be a very adult affair:

In fairness, fans were given an R-rated Logan outing before… well, kind of. For the home release of The Wolverine, an alternative unrated cut was made available. Now that Deadpool has proved that an adult-themed effort can be a success at the box office, here’s hoping that Wolverine 3 follows Wade’s lead.

Despite many rumours of the film being some sort of take on the classic Old Man Logan comic book arc, all we know for definite about Wolverine 3 is that it will feature Patrick Stewart’s Charles Xavier helping out the Canucklehead. The film will also bring an end to Jackman’s tenure as the iconic furball. At present, Jackman’s time as Wolverine has taken in appearances in X-Men, X-2, X-Men: The Last Stand, X-Men: First Class, X-Men: Days of Future Past, X-Men Origins: Wolverine and The Wolverine. With rumours of an appearance in X-Men: Apocalypse and the Channing Tatum-starring Gambit, along with Wolverine 3 that could take Jackman’s Wolvie total up to an incredible ten by the time he calls it a day and puts down the adamantium claws.

To be directed by The Wolverine’s James Mangold, the current plan is for Wolverine 3 to hit the big screen on March 3th, 2017.
