Forget the vast array of Sherlock Holmes movies of decades prior. Forget Robert Downey Jr.’s recent big screen Holmes outings. Forget Benedict Cumberbatch’s small screen Sherlock. Even forget Jonny Lee Miller’s turns in Elementary. There’s a new Sherlock Holmes movie now on the way… one that will star Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly.

Deadline has word that the pair, who have worked together on the likes of Step Brothers and Talladega Nights, will reunite for Holmes & Watson, a comedy effort from Sony Pictures. The project has been mooted for several years now, and it’s finally moving ahead with Ferrell and Reilly now on board. Previous plans had Sacha Baron Cohen lined up for the film, but the stalling of the project saw Cohen’s involvement dropped.

In Holmes & Watson, Will Ferrell will play Sherlock Holmes opposite John C. Reilly’s trusty Waston. Get Hard and Tropic Thunder’s Etan Cohen will be directing the film, which is due to go in to production before the year’s out.
