After a two-year hiatus, Westworld is finally returning for its eight-episode fourth season on June 26th, HBO has announced via a first trailer. Evan Rachel Wood will return along with Thandiwe Newton, Ed Harris, Jeffrey Wright, Tessa Thompson, Luke Hemsworth, Aaron Paul, and – it has just been announced – West Side Story’s Ariana DeBose.

The third season ended with Newton’s Maeve and Paul’s Caleb defeating Serac (Vincent Cassel) while Harris’ Man in Black appeared to been killed by his robotic alter-ego, controlled by Thompson’s Chalores (an amalgam of the characters Charlotte Hale and Dolores).

Both Harris and Wood are back in this teaser, however, reinforcing that nothing should ever be taken at face value when it comes to this show. Set to the tune of Lou Reed’s “Perfect Day”, the lavish-looking trailer promises an action-packed, deliciously creepy fourth season for the dystopian sci-fi – not that fans would expect anything less!

Last year, Westworld co-creator Lisa Joy promised “new worlds” to come in the fourth season of the show, and teased that a cast member from her film Reminiscence will also show up in the new season “in a funny way”. When asked to describe Westworld season 4 in one word, Joy chose an intriguing term: “inversion”.

Westworld season 4 premieres June 26th, and you can check out the trailer here.
