Well here’s some interesting news regarding Warner Brothers’ DCEU. Yep, as the title of this post says, the studio is eyeing Mel Gibson to direct the Suicide Squad sequel.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news, with the two-time Oscar winner the person who Warners see as the ideal choice to helm the follow-up to David Ayer’s 2016 movie. A deal is far from a done deal right now, although obviously that could all change in the blink of an eye.

Given that Ayer himself is already confirmed to be directing the Margot Robbie-fronted Gotham City Sirens, it’s likely that he hasn’t got room in his schedule for the Suicide Squad sequel, and so The WB see Gibson as the man to replace him.

With Scottish legends and brutalizing Jesus Christ in his rearview mirror, Gibson most recently directed Hacksaw Ridge. Starring Andrew Garfield, that picture has been nominated for an impressive six Academy Awards.

It’s expected that the majority of the first film’s cast will be back for the Suicide Squad sequel, but let’s just so hope that poor Harley Quinn doesn’t get referred to as “sugar tits” at any point…

As ever, expect more on this as it develops.
