In some interesting news for your Tuesday, Warner Brothers is moving forward with a Speedy Gonzales movie.

Deadline is reporting the news, with the feature-length effort to be known simply as Speedy. Mexican actor/filmmaker Eugenio Derbez has already been confirmed to voice the fastest mouse in all Mexico.

On this news, Derbez said, “In Mexico, we grew up watching Speedy Gonzales. He was like a superhero to us, or maybe more like a revolutionario like Simon Bolivar or Pancho Villa. He watched out for the little people but with a lot of bravado and a weakness for the ladies. I’m really excited to be bringing the character to the big screen. And besides being Mexican, my full name is Eugenio Derbez Gonzalez and I have big ears. The casting couldn’t be better.”

At this early stage, Speedy is being described as a heist-type movie that’s aimed to bring the fan-favourite Speedy Gonzales to a new generation of kids. Saving Silverman’s Hank Nelken is on scripting duties, whilst Dylan Sellers Rivers Edge Films will be producing with Derbez’s 3pas Studios.

With many of us here at Moonbase Alpha having grown up on a diet of Looney Tunes, this is certainly something that’s grabbed our attention.

As ever, expect more on this as it develops.
