With yesterday confirming another remake of The Fly and more news on the Amazing Stories reboot, now comes word one more redo – and it’s a biggie.

As per The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Brothers is looking to develop a reboot of The Matrix. In fact, The WB has brought in Zack Penn – best known for penning X-Men: The Last Stand and the upcoming Ready Player One – to work on the screenplay for this new take on the beloved Matrix franchise.

The early news is that Warners want Michael B. Jordan to star in the film, presumably taking over from Keanu Reeves as Neo. Jordan, of course, is one of the hottest rising stars in Hollywood these days, having featured in the likes of Chronicle, Creed, Fantastic Four and currently getting set to star opposite Chadwick Boseman in Black Panther.

From the Wachowskis, 1999’s The Matrix is revered as one of the great sci-fi pictures of modern times (well, if 18 years ago counts as ‘modern’!). With Laurence Fishburne, Carrie-Ann Moss and Hugo Weaving joining Reeves, the film became an instant favourite of many a genre fan. 2003’s The Matrix: Reloaded had a whole lot to live up to and did a decent enough job of doing just that, but many felt a little short-changed by the third film in the series, The Matrix: Revolutions. Since then, the franchise has carried on in the realms of comic book tales and video games.

As ever, expect more on this new take on an old favourite as and when we get it.
