Games Workshop has announced that they are producing an animated series called Angels of Death. The show will feature the franchise’s iconic Space Marines, namely the demi-vampiric Blood Angels.

The show is being put together by a blend of talent from throughout the community. Names attached include Aaron Dembski-Bowden, a novelist known for his thrilling, violent and gritty work on the Warhammer franchise. Electron Arts cinematic designer Richard Boylan is also involved, who’s known to fans thanks to his atmospheric short, Guardsman. Boylan also created a dramatic retelling on the novel Helsreach, which is also set in the Warhammer 40,000 Universe.

Games Workshop doesn’t have the best track record when it comes to movies. In 1996, the company produced Inquisitor, a live-action mini-movie that was held together with gaffer tape and enthusiasm. 2010’s Ultramarines: A Warhammer 40,000 Movie brought together the voice talents of Terence Stamp, Sean Pertwee and John Hurt with the storytelling skill of Guardians of the Galaxy writer Dan Abnett. Unfortunately, it was poorly animated and directed, leading it to be a bit of a snore-fest.

Signs point to Angel of Death being the best official Warhammer 40,000 show so far.
