WAR OF THE WORLDS TV Show

Just when you thought you’d seen every possible interpretation of H.G. Wells’ classic War of the Worlds possible, now comes news that a new TV adaptation is on the way.

Broadcast Now has the scoop, with Mammoth Screen the company producing this TV series. Doctor Who scribe Peter Harness and Jonathan Strange will be penning a mini-series that will apparently remain strictly faithful to the original source material. Of course, The War of the Worlds has already been adapted previously, with a Gene Berry-starring 1953 effort and a Tom Cruise-fronted 2005 film both instantly springing to mind, not to mention musical incarnations.

On this news, Mammoth Screen MD Damien Timmer said, “The aftershock of The War of the Worlds can still be felt in popular culture today. The story of a Martian invasion as experienced in Victorian Surrey is a masterpiece. We want this new adaptation to reaffirm H.G. Wells’ position as one of this country’s most important writers.”

As ever, expect more on this as it develops.
