The late Jess Franco’s cult erotic thriller Voodoo Passion is to be released on DVD in the US – and the great news for us Eurosleaze fans is that it is region free!

Franco was both revered and reviled in his lifetime, but since his death in 2013, his cult status hasn’t waned, with more fans of outsider cinema discovering his genius. Full Moon Pictures has been releasing some of his seventies ‘depraved’ works and Voodoo Passion completes the set – which when you display all ten together forms a beautiful Jess Franco portrait – when it’s released on June 15th. It’ll also be added to the Full Moon Streaming service available on Amazon Prime.

Also known as Call of the Blonde Goddess and – ahem – Porno Shock (dear old Jess was never subtle), the film comes from the period when he was working with infamous producer Erwin C. Dietrich and is described as ‘a voyeuristic, sex-soaked thriller that veers wildly between reality and fantasy. Actress Ada Tauler stars as Susan, who arrives in Haiti to live with her new husband Jack (Franco regular Jack Taylor from Female Vampire), who has an apparently unhealthy, possibly incestuous relationship with his sister Olga. Getting lost in a fever dream of sexual delirium, Susan suddenly finds herself lost in a weird world of black magic, clandestine couplings and bloody voodoo rituals, all the while her possibly sinister housekeeper looks on lustfully.’

It’s considered more coherent than many of Franco’s dream-state erotic horror films, and it also stars frequent collaborator Karine Gambier and boasts an amazingly groovy score by Walter Baumgartner (Franco’s Jack the Ripper).

The film is presented fully uncut and digitally remastered from Dietrich’s original negative.
