Gifted cinematographer Vilmos Zsigmond who brought us his beautiful, memorable images on film has left us at the age of 85.

Born on June 30th, 1930 in Hungary he and fellow student and cinematographer, László Kovács fled the country during the Russian invasion of 1956 landing in the United States to begin their careers first in documentaries then moving into feature low budget films such as the Time Travelers, Psycho A Go-Go, Horror of the Blood Monsters and the bizarre film Futz, in which a man falls in love with a pig!

A master of natural light and vivid use of color his talent shined in films as Close Encounters of the Third Kind, McCabe and Mrs. Miller, The Long Goodbye, The Hired Hand, The Deer Hunter, The Sugarland Express, Scarecrow, Heaven’s Gate, Real Genius, The Witches of Eastwick, Maverick, The Black Dahlia, and the television series The Mindy Project.
