In the spate of properties being adapted for TV over the recent years, one that majorly caught our attention last year was FOX’s take on The Exorcist. With its debut season now done and dusted, creator Jeremy Slater has been discussing the chances of the show being renewed for a second year.

When a fan sent Slater a tweet about how sad they were to see the series cancelled, he quickly moved to confirm that the show hasn’t been scrapped just yet. Slater said, “We haven’t been cancelled. I’ve been meeting with the studio & network, pitching my ideas for S2. I’m still optimistic about our chances.”

If you’ve yet to check out The Exorcist, it was certainly a lot better than we were expecting. Of course, we’d been previously burned by the absolutely awful Damien show that was based around The Omen. So, taking one of the all-time classic horror movies and horror novels to the small screen had us watching with just a tad bit of trepidation. The series actually started fantastically, and there was a huge twist mid-season that tied the show to its cinematic brethren in a rather clever way.

Once that particular twist was revealed, it was always going to be hard for the show to top that moment, and so that proved. Still, The Exorcist managed to remain an interesting beast for the rest of its debut year, even if ratings weren’t exactly great.

The current word is that FOX will be making a final decision in May on whether or not to renew The Exorcist for a second season.

As ever, expect more this as it develops.
