With the upcoming Halloween reboot having recently won a whole lot of fan approval by bringing back Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie Strode, there’s even more good news for longtime fans of The Shape as John Carpenter is reportedly very much involved in the creative process for the film.

If you remember, Carpenter has long been signed on as an executive producer, with David Gordon Green directing from a script Green’s been working on with Danny McBride. With Jason Blum producing through his Blumhouse Banner, Blum has explained that Carpenter isn’t simply just collecting a paycheque, though, and that he’s very much involved in the creative process.

Speaking to Coming Soon, Blum enthused, “We don’t take any big steps without his approval. So, for instance, hiring David and Danny he approved. He approved their pitch, he approved their first script, he approved bringing back Jamie Lee Curtis. So anytime we make a big creative turn, he’s involved with that and we don’t do it without his blessing. We went to him and asked him to be involved. There was no contractual, financial or any other obligation to have him on this movie. We went back and asked him to join us again.”

To hear that the iconic Horror Master has such an input and say on the new Halloween will certainly assist in helping any doubters feel a little bit easier about this relaunch for the beloved franchise.

With the news of Curtis returning as Laurie Strode, it was revealed that this new film will ignore any of the events post-Halloween II. In the most recent entry in the main franchise before Rob Zombie’s remake and its sequel, Curtis’s Strode was killed off by Michael Myers in the fantastic, heartbreaking opening of Halloween: Resurrection. While that opening scene was brilliantly done, sadly Resurrection as a whole was poorly received by horror hounds, most notably for having Busta Rhymes performing kung fu on Michael. That movie ultimately killed off the series as a whole until Zombie did his own take on Carpenter’s original 1978 tale.

As ever, expect more on this new Halloween as it continues to develop.
