With Universal’s newly-dubbed ‘Dark Universe’ set to launch with next month’s Tom Cruise-headlined The Mummy, now comes a new update on another famed movie monster.

Following on from similar speculation towards the middle of last year, The Hollywood Reporter has word that Universal still has Dwayne Johnson at the top of their wish list to star in their new take on The Wolfman. The multiple-time WWE Champion has, of course, turned himself in to one of the hottest movie stars on the planet over the last few years. Even with Baywatch currently failing to make the splash that all involved hoped for, Johnson’s stock is still ridiculously high and Universal are still eager to sign him up for their shared monster movie-verse, aka Dark Universe.

Alex Kurtzman’s The Mummy, featuring Sofia Boutella as the titular monster, arrives in UK cinemas from June 9th. That film will see Russell Crowe appear as Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and from there on out the studio also has Johnny Depp on board to headline The Invisible Man, and Javier Bardem to play Frankenstein’s famed monster. Elsewhere, Bill Condon’s Bride of Frankenstein is doing its best to get Angelina Jolie to take its titular role, whilst new rumours suggest that Scarlett Johansson is being looked out for The Creature from the Black Lagoon.

Where The Wolfman is concerned, Godzilla and The Expendables’ Dave Callaham has been working away on the screenplay, although no director is attached to the project just yet.
