In some interesting news, it’s been revealed that Universal Cable Productions is to develop an anthology series based on none other than Alfred Hitchcock.

Variety broke the news, reporting that a deal has been agreed with the Alfred Hitchcock Estate to move forward with a TV-driven project known as Welcome to Hitchcock.

The current word on this series is that it will focus on Hitchcock’s unique storytelling seen in the likes of The Birds, Psycho and Alfred Hitchcock Presents. The anthology will centre on a season-long mystery, with multiple seasons already being talked about.

On this news, Universal Cable Production’s Dawn Olmstead said, “Long after his death, Alfred Hitchcock continues to be one of the most celebrated directors and visionaries in the world, a master manipulator of the macabre. We’re honoured that the Hitchcock Estate has put its trust in our studio to pay homage to his work.”

Executive producers on this new series are Chris Columbus, Michael Barnathan, Timmy Thompson and Todd Thompson, along with the Hitchcock family. Columbus will also be directing the pilot episode.

As ever, expect more on this as it develops.
