As Warner Brothers
and DC frantically play catch up with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, word now
comes out that The WB is eyeing two names to play their cinematic Black Canary.

Latino

reports that the two names being looked at to play Dinah Laurel
Lance are Mad Max: Fury Road’s Abbey
Lee and Supernatural’s Alona Tal.
The reason why Canary is being lined up for the big screen is down to Warners
looking to bring more female characters to their cinematic realm, including seemingly
a Birds of Prey-style female team-up movie down the line.

This current report claims that the plan at the moment is
for the Black Canary character to make her debut in either Zack Snyder’s Justice League Part 1 or the director’s
Justice League Part 2. Those films
are set for 2017 and 2019 releases, respectively.

At present, the DCCU female roster is made up solely of Gal
Gadot’s Wonder Woman, who will debut in March’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice before herself going on to play
a pivotal role in Snyder’s two-part Justice
League
and also heading up her own 2017 solo movie.

Interestingly, it’s believed that Jena Malone’s mystery Batman v Superman role is to be that of
Barbara Gordon, aka Batgirl, aka Oracle, aka the person who set up the Birds of
Prey team with Black Canary.

As ever, expect more on this as and when it develops.
