First Harry Potter, now Twilight… the much-loved, much-mocked vampire romance may become the next big YA saga to be adapted for the small screen, and we are tired.

A television series based on the best-selling books by Stephanie Meyer is in early development at Lionsgate Television, writes The Hollywood Reporter. Meyer is expected to be involved and Sinead Daly, whose credits include Tell Me Lies, The Walking Dead: World Beyond, Raised by Wolves, Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency and The Get Down, is attached to write the script. Reports state that Daly is working with Lionsgate to determine the nature of this Twilight project, and whether it will be a remake of Meyer’s books or a different offshoot.

It’s hard to imagine a TV remake would ever compare to the unintentionally hilarious movie franchise, which starred Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner, so we’ll have to hope Lionsgate opts for something other than a straight retelling.

The series isn’t attached to a network or streaming service yet, as Lionsgate reportedly aims to develop the project before pitching it to buyers.

In any case, we can’t wait to hear what franchise superfan RPatz has to say about this latest development.
