Not sure how this is going to go down with fans of AMERICAN HORROR STORY, I can only speak for myself when I say it’s a terrible idea frankly…

According to Deadline, Zachary Quinto has signed on in a leading role for the hugely anticipated second season. Quinto played had a regular role on the first series as one of ‘The Murder House’s previous occupants, so this will no doubt delight many fans of the show. However (and here comes the rubbish bit) he’ll be playing a different character.

See? Even Quinto’s a little nonplussed.

Now we knew that creator Ryan Murphy was taking a unique approach to the series, and had already announced that the sophomore season would tell a different story (and utilize a different setting other than the Harmon house) but with news that Jessica Lange was in final negotiations it was a given that there would still be some through-line and shared continuity. How wrong we were! Lange will also be playing a new character.

That means everything us viewers invested in in the first series, every unanswered question we eagerly awaited the answer to (and there’s some BIG ones outstanding) – all counts for nothing.

Anyone else feel jipped, or is it just me?

Season 1 regulars Evan Peters (Tate), Sarah Paulson (psychic Billie Dean Howard) and Lily Rabe (Nora Montgomery) will also return. Again, as new characters.

AMERICAN HORROR STORY returns in October.
