When we first covered the news back in May that Robert Rodriguez was bringing his 1996 classic FROM DUSK TILL DAWN to the small screen, we could certainly see the potential in expanding on the mythology introduced in that and its two follow-ups. Now despite FROM DUSK TILL DAWN: TEXAS BLOOD MONEY and FROM DUSK TILL DAWN: THE HANGMAN’S DAUGHTER being lazy cash-grabs, we never expected Rodriguez to throw the baby out of the bathwater and bin his original. I mean, how easy is it just to tell more stories set in and around the world of The Titty Twister? But alas, bin it he has, with the newly issued Press Release revealing we’re to revisit the storyline of the first movie, which, cos Clooney’s a ‘tad’ busy these days, means a recasting of the Gecko brothers, the Fuller family, and, sacrilegiously, Sheriff Earl McGraw, who’s been long portrayed by the magnificent Michael Parks. Here’s the new cast breakdown to upset you further:

D.J. Cotrona (G.I. JOE RETALIATION) as Seth Gecko

Zane Holtz (VAMPIRES SUCK) as Richie Gecko

Jesse Garcia (THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES) as Ranger Freddie Gonzalez (aka ‘new guy’)

Don Johnson (DJANGO UNCHAINED) as Earl McGraw (Hmmm…)

No news as yet on who’ll be playing the Fullers, or Santanico Pandemonium, but we’ll keep you informed.

Regarding the show, Rodriguez had this to say: “If the movie’s the short story, the series is the novel.” But we really liked that short story, Rob!

To leave you with a silver lining, Rodriguez is handling writing and directing duties on the first two episodes, so at least we can be assured of quality.

FROM DUSK TILL DAWN: THE SERIES will debut on Rodriguez’s upcoming El Ray network sometime early 2014. We’ll keep you in the loop as to where you’ll be able to catch it here.
