After lukewarm responses from fans and critics, it appears that Marvel’s AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. may be taking some steps to draw back those fans that have been doubting the show. Marvel has revealed that two comic book characters, Deathlok and Lorelei, are to appear in upcoming episodes of the show.

Whilst Deathlok being added to the show is a shock, and a step in the right direction, the biggest surprise is that the character has been involved in the show from the very first episode. Yes, Mike Peterson, played by J. August Richards, is to be turned into Deathlok. Fans have suggested that Peterson would end up being some sort of superhero/supervillain, with most eying him as Luke Cage initially, and this now confirms it. The show has officially described Deathlok as “Transformed into the cybernetic soldier against his will, Mike Peterson must struggle to find the man in the machine. With a high-tech eye that allows him to see through walls, super strength and increased speed courtesy of a cybernetic leg, will Deathlok fight alongside the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. or against them?”

Those involved with the show have also given their thoughts on this development. Executive producer Jeffrey Bell said, “We have been waiting all season for this moment where we can reveal that Mike Peterson’s story arc is an origin story. We’re thrilled to have J. August Richards playing Deathlok and to have our audience enjoy this favourite Marvel character on the show.” Richards himself enthused, “If you would have asked when I was nine years old what I wanted to be, I would have said a superhero and I’m so excited to be one now as an adult on TV! It’s a dream come true.”

As well as Deathlok appearing in the series, it was recently revealed that Jaimie Alexander’s Lady Sif, last seen in THOR: THE DARK WORLD, would be appearing in an upcoming episode. The reason for Sif’s appearance has now been confirmed, with a Thor villain at the head of it. A Marvel Tweet confirmed, “Sif will come to Earth to track down Lorelei, a villain from Walter Simonson’s Thor run.” It’s also been confirmed that MAGIC CITY’s Elena Satine will play the character.

Quite the revelations for AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. then. T.R.A.C.K.S., featuring Deathlok, hits US screens on 4th February, with Sif and Lorelei appearing two weeks after that.

AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. returns to Channel 4 in the UK in March. No exact return date has been confirmed as of yet.
