April 15 2013 sees the US premier on SyFy of DEFIANCE, a show billed as a sci-fi Western. With the strap-line ‘New Earth. New Rules’ and created by some of those involved in BATTLESTAR GALACTICA and FARSCAPE. The executive producer, Kevin Murphy, was also responsible for DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES.

The story is set in 2046 and centres on humans and seven races of aliens having to co-exist following a long war. The setting is the town of Defiance which stands on the ruins of what was once St. Louis. Check out the latest trailer in the player below…

The programme is accompanied by an online game described as an open world shooter to be available for PC, Xbox and PlayStation. Estimates of the total budget for the production including the game are in excess of $100 million. Here’s the first look at the gameplay…

Filming for the TV show takes place in Toronto where they can take advantage of experienced crews along with a large range of scenery and weather courtesy of the Canadian countryside.

There is no word at present as to when DEFIANCE will reach the UK, but we’ll keep you in the loop.
