Not a lot of love around here at Starburst Towers for lad’s channel Dave’s tacky three-part 2009 Red Dwarf mini-series ‘Back To Earth’. But the viewing figures were huge and our interest was piqued – and perhaps even our hopes lifted – by the news that the same channel had commissioned a six-episode all-new run of episodes (effectively the show’s ninth full series) to be broadcast in the Autumn 2012. The original cast are all back, present and correct – Christopher Barrie as Rimmer, Craig Charles as Lister, Robert Llewellyn as Kryten and Danny John-Jules at The Cat. Series co-creator Doug Naylor has scripted the six episodes and whispers from the recordings suggest this is something of a return to form for the Boys from the Dwarf.

Time – and probably space – will tell. The first cast picture from the new series has been released and it certainly looks as if the new show means business.

All we need now is for it to be funny…

Look out for more Starburst coverage of Red Dwarf later this year.
