Fantastic news for fans of former Doctor Who star Christopher Eccleston (sorry, Chris, you’re going to have to learn to live with it) who has just been cast in a starring role in the intriguing new HBO pilot The Leftovers, to be produced by Lost’s Damon Lindelof. Based on Tom Perotta’s 2011 novel The Leftovers tells of the coming of ‘the Rapture’, where the chosen are transported to Heaven… and those left behind are… well, The leftovers. Hence the name. The pilot script has been co-written by Perotta and Lindelof and hopes are high that the ambitious project will be quickly greenlit for a full season order. Starring alongside Eccleston (who will be seen later this year in his role as Malekith the Accursed in Thor: The Dark World and won’t be seen in this year’s – or any other’s – Doctor Who anniversary episode) will be Justin Theroux, Anne Dowd, Amanda Warren and Carrie Coon.
