Who amongst us is just a little hesitant about getting even remotely excited about GOTHAM? A show that doesn’t tie in with any other DC Comics-based series or film, features a 12 year old Bruce Wayne and showcases the rise of future police commissioner James Gordon. Include the fact that the series will feature the Penguin, a pre-Riddler Edward Nygma and a young Selina Kyle (Kitten Girl perhaps?) the signs don’t bode well.

Well if all that isn’t worrying enough, GOTHAM creator Bruno Heller has told Entertainment Weekly that the Caped Crusader’s most notorious  nemesis, the Clown prince of Crime, the Joker will also have a role to play. “He’s the crown jewel of the Batman villains,” Heller said. “He will be brought in with great care and a lot of thought.”

Heller also stated that TOUCH’s David Mazouz, whom portrays the pre-teen Bruce Wayne in the Fox series, is “the best actor ever to play the part”. “He is a genuine prodigy of an actor, as you will see on screen,” he added. “Frankly, before David was cast, I was ambivalent about how much we would use Bruce Wayne in the series. What do you do with a 12-year-old kid? like I say, he’s off-the-charts talented.”

After the disappointment of Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight, can we really take any more Bat-Disappointments? Please be good GOTHAM, please be good GOTHAM, please be good GOTHAM…
