Syfy (formerly the Sci-Fi Channel) have announced that the just-commissioned six-episode fifth series of their quirky sci-fi adventure series Warehouse 13 will be its last. The series, starring Eddie McClintock and Joanne Kelly as two US secret service agents seconded to the top secret ‘Warehouse 13’ project run by Saul Rubinek’s Artie Nielson – where mythical and historical artefacts of a supernatural nature are collected and stored – debuted in July 2009 to record ratings of 3.5 million viewers for the channel but figures for the current fourth season have dropped as low as 1.27 million. The fifth season, which will bring the show’s episode tally up to 64, will begin filming in the summer for screening next year on Syfy. Commentators have already noted Syfy’s inclination to terminate their original dramas after five series – the popular A Town Called Eureka suffered a similar fate last year and Stargate SG-1 enjoyed a further five seasons when it moved from its original home at Showtime.
