American cable network SyFy have today announced they’re developing GHOST GHIRLS, a half hour comedy/procedural pilot from executive producer Jack Black.

Taking its cue from such popular (so we’re told) genre shows as MEDIUM and THE GHOST WHISPERER, the story centres around two women (comedians Amanda Lund & Maria Blasucci) who work as paranormal investigators, despite struggling to be any good at it.

Should this project get beyond the Pilot stage we see quite a lot of scope for comedy here, especially by using those far-too-serious-for-their-own good Arquette and Love-Hewitt vehicles (no, seriously, who does watch those?!) as a jumping off point. As long as it doesn’t devolve into outright parody that is.

Lund and Biasucci will be recognisable to those who are familiar with the LA-based improv show BEANS!, but have also contributed to several high profile shorts, including projects for Funny Or Die and CollegeHumor.com. The pair created GHOST GHIRLS with director Jeremy Konner. Hopefully the show will give the trio the break they need.

As for Black, even though he’s begun to grate on people’s nerves over the last few years, we have to remind everybody that his last foray into the world of TV comedy produced this… the wonderful HEAT VISION AND JACK. Ok, so this didn’t make it past the Pilot stage either, but once you’ve seen it you’ll understand what a crime that decision was. Check it out for yourselves…

Told you it was ace. Parts 2 and 3 are there somewhere too. Just remember to come back.

We’ll keep you abreast of future GHOST GHIRLS news as it drops.
