Sleepy Hollow

Galloping onto UK screens next month is Fox’s new TV adaptation of American literature’s classic tale SLEEPY HOLLOW. STAR TREK writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman’s reimagining of Washington Irving’s perennial favourite will premiere on Wednesday 9th October on the Universal Channel at 9pm.

This modern spin sees Ichabod Crane as a spy, rather than a teacher, who apparently “dies” during a mission for General George Washington in 1781. He awakens in Sleepy Hollow, New York, in 2013. But so too does the Headless Horseman, whose head Ichabod lopped off before his perceived death. The horseman begins his murderous nightly rampages, and Ichabod must partner with newly appointed Sheriff Abbie Mills to stop the undead killer once and for all.

The channel fought off competition from a number of rival networks to secure the rights to the show, as it did with Bates Motel, which premiered last week, and the forthcoming Graceland.

“We’ve been looking for… distinctive, new content to bring character-focused positioning to life,” managing director of Universal Networks International, Nicky Douglas, commented, “With intriguing central characters, both Sleepy Hollow and Graceland deliver that and also tap into the universal and relatable themes of belief and trust, which will appeal to our core viewers and new audiences alike.”

I can’t help but wonder if a series such as this might fall after the first furlong.
