Screenwriters Neal Purvis and Robert Wade recently said goodbye to the James Bond franchise after penning the super-spy’s last five adventures, but now they’re turning their attentions to another cult property in the form of BARBARELLA.

The project was announced all the way back in June of last year, but this is the first movement on the series that will re-introduce the sci-fi heroine to modern audiences after a 44 year hiatus. DRIVE’s Nicolas Winding Refn remains attached to produce and direct several episodes (we’re still waiting for the announcement that his “perfect woman” Christina Hendricks has nabbed the lead role!) for rights holders Gaumont International Television and Martha De Laurentiis.

With things finally moving along now we hopefully won’t have to wait another six months for a second update. Stay tuned…
