After Martin Freeman’s little slip-up the other day, the BBC have now confirmed that he’ll return as John Watson alongside Benedict Cumberbatch’s SHERLOCK for a Christmas 2015 special. But there’s more – this will be followed by a series of three new adventures.

Writer Mark Gatiss has stated that the upcoming series four will take Sherlock and John Watson into deeper and darker water than ever before”, while his fellow showrunner Steven Moffat adds it’s far too early to say what’s coming, but we’re reasonably confident that the very next thing to happen to Sherlock and John, is the very last thing you’d expect…”

So the usual meaningless hyperbole then, but what we do know is that, following series three’s big cliffhanger, another confrontation with Andrew Scott’s Moriarty is on the cards.

The Christmas 2015 special will be shot from next January, with the series following closely behind. Yes, we know it’s a long way off, but they both have big Hollywood careers now…
