MTV are carving ahead with their TV adaptation of slasher series SCREAM and have hired writing duo Jay Beattie and Dan Dworkin.

Beattie and Dworkin, whose previous credits include CRIMINAL MINDS, REVENGE, and THE EVENT, will pen the pilot episode, which is expected to air sometime next year. Original director Wes Craven has expressed interest in bringing their script to the screen.

Following on from the success of MTV’s TEEN WOLF film-to-TV adaptation, MTV are hoping that this reinvention of the series, which was last seen in cinemas in 2011, will be well-received by their youthful audience.

It’s unknown whether it will be a total reboot or part of the same universe, though knowing the series’ post-modern penchant, surely there’ll at least be a scene where someone watches the film. And it won’t end well for them.
