Perhaps near the top of the unexpected news of the day pile, it has been confirmed that a TV series based on Sylvester Stallone’s John Rambo might be in the works.

Entertainment One has created a deal with producer Avi Lerner to develop a new series based on the franchise that was first brought to our screens in 1982 with FIRST BLOOD. We’ve been treated to three other instalments since then with wildly varying quality, the latest being 2008’s RAMBO.

At the moment it’s still in the planning stages with discussions currently taking place to get Stallone back on board in some capacity. It’s still unclear as to whether he will be interested in claiming the title role once more, but Lerner has stated: “I’m confident by the prospect of collaborating again with my good friend Sly for an encore in the next phase of the RAMBO legacy”. So he’s hopeful at least.

It seems almost unthinkable not to have Sly involved in a series tagged with the RAMBO name. As it is a brand new TV series perhaps a smaller role or a brief re-occurring character would be better suited to the star, allowing some fresh new faces to take control of the helm. Then again, the whole idea doesn’t sound incredibly promising..
