Of all the new shows hitting this year, CBS’s adaptation of the 2009 novel is easily one of our most anticipated. Not only does the source material provide us with a killer premise (see synopsis below if you’ve yet to read the book), but with the critically acclaimed writer Brian K. Vaughn (LOST / Saga / Y: The Last Man) and King himself overseeing the 13-episode series for Spielberg’s Amblin Television, we know it couldn’t be in better hands.

CBS have now announced when it will premiere the series, with a June 24th release date announced for the US. Given that this will be a high profile event series, expect its UK debut to follow shortly after.

Under the Dome represents just one of many Stephen King adaptations heading our way, with The Ten O’ Clock People, Mercy, Pet Sematary, The Dark Tower and The Reach all currently in various stages of development, and Carrie due in October.

Official Synopsis:

UNDER THE DOME is the story of a small town that is suddenly and inexplicably sealed off from the rest of the world by an enormous transparent dome. The town’s inhabitants must deal with surviving the post-apocalyptic conditions while searching for answers to what this barrier is, where it came from, and if and when it will go away.

“UNDER THE DOME” is produced by CBS Television Studios in association with Amblin Television. Neal Baer, Stephen King, Justin Falvey, Darryl Frank, Stacey Snider, and Brian K. Vaughan, who wrote the television adaptation, will serve as executive producers. Acclaimed director Niels Arden Oplev (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) will direct the first episode.
