KER-SPLAT! To most cult TV fans it’s the Holy Grail of Home Video releases. And now, at last, it looks as if it’s ‘dream come true’ time as Warner Home Video have confirmed (via US chat show host Conan O’Brien on Twitter and later reported on tvshowsondvd.com) that the classic 1960s Batman TV series starring Adam West and Burt Ward will finally be arriving on DVD (and, hopefully, Blu Ray) sometime in 2014.

POW!! Horrendous and complex rights issues have prevented the legendary series – which burned brightly for three seasons (1966 – 1968) to a total of 120 episodes – from getting any sort of Video/DVD release (although the 1966 feature film version has long since been available). The series has been buried in a mire of ownership disputes for decades but there have been promising signs of a thaw in the last couple of years, and in 2013 alone Mattel released a range of action figures based on the characters from the series and DC comics launched a well-received Batman 66 retro comic continuing the adventures of the TV Caped Crusader and his Boy Wonder.

BIFF!! No news yet on release dates for his eagerly-awaited set, what formats it will be available in and what special features can be expected, but suffice to say that Starburst is already clearing space on its shelves for what could well be the biggest and best TV DVD release of the year.

Stay tuned to this Bat-channel for more news…
