We’ll admit it, as excited as we were to get our first glimpse of Star Wars Rebels in the much hyped teaser trailer earlier this week, we were left utterly disappointed by the uncharacteristically cheesy voiceover and script (“the Jedi will rise!”… we doubt it). The idea behind the animation style – inspired by Ralph McQuarrie’s celebrated concept art – is a welcome move away from the audience-dividing aesthetic of The Clone Wars, but we really didn’t get a decent enough look at it to see whether it works or not. The Star Destroyer overhead pass looked interesting and all, but… Nah, it was just that damn voiceover that completely killed it. Horrible. Thank the Maker then that they’ve got another year to sell this thing to us, and Lucasfilm has gone a ways to win us back today with the reveal of a brand new propaganda style, Stormtrooper-centric teaser poster (courtesy of Entertainment Weekly). Check it out below, along with a newly tweaked synopsis for the show and an early look at the traditional tie-in action figure packaging (which again focuses on the Stormtroopers, who’ll be featuring heavily given the time period. Hope they can explain why they can’t shoot for shit compared to their clone brethren!) . . .

Official Synopsis:

Star Wars Rebels continues the epic tradition of the legendary Star Wars saga with all-new exciting, action-packed adventures. It is a dark time in the galaxy, as the evil Galactic Empire tightens its grip of power from world to world. As the series begins, Imperial forces have occupied a remote planet, ruling with an iron fist and ruining the lives of its people. But there are a select few who are brave enough to stand up against the endless Stormtroopers and TIE fighters of the Empire: the clever and motley crew of the starship Ghost. Together, this ragtag group will face threatening new villains, have thrilling adventures, and become heroes.

STAR WARS REBELS debuts Fall 2014.
