When the first series of The Mysterious Cities Of Gold ended in the early ’80s, we saw Esteban, Zia and Tao heading off into the sunset to find the remaining cities of gold. With no second series in sight, we were left never knowing if they ever found those cities. Well now, 20 or so years later, we will finally get some answers.

Fabulous Films (the distributor behind the excellent first season box set) has confirmed that they will be responsible for the UK release of the season 2 box set as well. At the moment there is no set date in place, but it has been announced that it will be released in 2014.

This second season is rumoured to be the first of 3 follow up series and based on the trailer for this it looks like they have stayed true to the original series animation and music, and if they can get the original English language cast back (or at least some damn good sound-a-likes) this new series could be everything we’ve waited for since those glorious days in the Broom Cupboard (which – for those of you who weren’t kids in the ’80s – was a kids TV show and not some form of ’80s child abuse!).
