With the fiftieth anniversary special in the can, production is about to resume on what comes next – this year’s DOCTOR WHO Christmas special. The read-through took place today in Cardiff and the BBC tweeted the above image of star Matt Smith waving the script around. What can be gleamed from this? Well, the title of Steven Moffat’s Christmas Special will be “Christmas Special 2013”. Maybe it’s subject to change…

Also notable, however, is the outgoing Doctor’s lack of hair, having shaved it off for his role in Ryan Gosling’s HOW TO CATCH A MONSTER. While it’s true that his hair in recent series hasn’t been quite as long as when he started in 2010, this is a little too short for the Doc and Smith will be donning a wig for shooting – as he confirmed in an appearance on ITV’s Daybreak:

“I Sunday. It’ll be sad – the end of a wonderful era!”

Let’s all hope they come up with a hairpiece more convincing than that used in Karen Gillen’s final episode. DOCTOR WHO will return to our screens on 23rd November, followed by Matt Smith’s handover to Twelfth Doctor Peter Capaldi this Christmas Day.
