Star Wars

…but it might not be the one you were hoping for. Apologies if the headline dragged you in; dirty pool I know…

Ok, so hardened STAR WARS fans will recall that strange announcement a long time ago, in a rumour-filled Galaxy far far away… that Lucasfilm were planning an animated sitcom set within their universe. We were nervous, especially as production duties were being handled by parody extraordinaires Seth Green and Matt Senreich, aka the guys behind ROBOT CHICKEN. Sure, we’ve all enjoyed the gentle ribbing they provided with their various Specials, and the gag was even funny (for the most part) when Seth Macfarlane hopped onboard the bandwagon with his FAMILY GUY satires… but George himself ripping into his saga? That didn’t strike us as the smartest move. We gave them the benefit of the doubt – why wouldn’t there be natural comedy to be mined from the universe? There’s plenty of comedic moments in all 6 of the movies after all, and the CLONE WARS often delivers the funny. Perhaps if they took a different track and didn’t go so broad, didn’t stray into piss-takery, then maybe we could be onto something…

Nope. This is EXACTLY the same as EVERYTHING you’ve seen so far. If you got sad at the sight of Yoda advertising mobile phones throughout 2012, then DO NOT watch the following clips. Trust us, this is a dark day for STAR WARS fans.

Presenting, STAR WARS DETOURS…

Official Synopsis:

Star Wars Detours is an animated comedy that explores what daily life is like in a galaxy far, far away. There are no Empires striking back or attacking clones here. Instead, Star Wars Detours focuses on the universe’s regular folks and their everyday problems… which, to be fair, do frequently involve famous bounty hunters, crazed Ewoks, and even a Dark Lord of the Sith.

Welcome to Star Wars: Detours: the other side of the stars, between the wars.’

We have no idea how soon this will be unleashed on an unsuspecting public, and frankly we’re finding it hard to care. (But it’ll most likely premiere later this year.)

Are we being too harsh? Will this actually find an audience despite the joke being played out? Share your comments below or on Twitter @STARBURST_MAG
